History of the property
A 18th century Master House ideal for your events : the Domaine de Saint Charles
In ancient times the Lodévois was a strategic location, right in the middle of the Volques territory (a former Celtic tribe living in the South of Gaul) and at the confluence of the Lergue and the Soulondres rivers. At a short distance from the property, you can see an actual Gallo-Roman road. The One Hundred Years War caused major damage in the area. A local castle in Les Plans was used by the British army to organise raids against the fortified city of Lodève.
Located next to the Soulondres river, the flour mill of the property may date back to the 13th century even though it might have been used before. It is a typical mill of the Languedoc with its mill feeder channel and its large retention pond. Originally, the mill was a noble property owned by the canons of Lodève. After a trial it became a commoners property and was sold to citizen Vallat on March 7, 1791.

Since the Domaine de Saint Charles was created during the French Directory and First Empire, we decided to name our bedrooms after famous historical figures from this amazing era. The Lafayette and Joséphine bedrooms are in the left wing. The Napoleon Suite is located in the center. The Hussars and the Merveilleuses bedrooms are located in the right wing, which can be accessed through a spiral staircase.
The reception room, right next to the orangery, used to be a stable. It was transformed in 2015. A pontoon is now available to access the pond and enjoy the clear and fresh waters of the river close by, during hot summer days.
